Spring Updates
It's time for a new season! Alden came over to teach us how to prepare the garden beds and seed them. To accomplish this task, we had a group of community members help out (Gordon students, friends from other colleges, and friends from church). See what we did in the garden this summer that led to the flourishing harvest that resulted soon after (our second official season as Newroz!).
1) First, we removed the winter rye from the beds (which helped compost over the winter season) and hoed the garden beds to turn up the soil.

2) Then, we incorporated organic compost (from chicken manure and leftover food) into the beds.

3) Finally, we planted seeds into each row. Alden introduced a handy method of placing seeds inside a container with holes, and shaking the can to distribute seeds evenly. We planted seeds leftover from last year's crop, and added a few new options such as carrots, cucumbers and strawberries. After seeding, we watered the beds!

In conclusion: it only takes a couple hands and a few hours to start a beautiful garden that will flourish for months. And again, the realization that the garden is not an individual effort, but the result of a community coming together.
