OUR VISION
Newroz means “new day” or “new sun” in Kurdish. It embodies the efforts our team made to restore the garden to its full beauty after a brief period of inactivity.
We aim to connect those in the Gordon (and greater North Shore) community to the food they eat and the earth it comes from by providing access to local produce.
We hope to create a space that raises awareness for sustainable farming, while also celebrating the practical work it takes to achieve those goals.
WHAT WE DO
We aspire to achieve our vision by having weekly harvest days when community members can come and pick their own produce. We also have work days when anyone can come in and help with garden maintenance.
The garden is a place where one is able to come as an individual and cultivate greater understanding of self while also connecting with the work they are doing with others.
OUR COMMUNITY
It is important to recognize that we are unable to stand without the support of our community:
-
Our garden is an extension of the ASF (Advocates for a Sustainable Future) here at Gordon; we are grateful that such an organization exists here on campus.
-
We would also like to give a shout out to our friends over at physical plant for helping us out with various tasks.
-
Thank you to Alden Drake, a local farmer from the north shore area for guiding and directing the growth of this garden.
-
We especially appreciate the Gordon students, faculty, and staff who invest in the growth of the garden by donating their time and energy.
